Site Description Scrub riparian area with remnant cottonwood and willow. Recently purchased by the BLM. One of perhaps four sites in Eddy County with native cottonwood/riparian area left.
Birds Has breeding Bell's Vireo. Additionally contains other priority species such as Painted Bunting, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Summer Tanager and Orchard Oriole. One of very few breeding sites for Painted Bunting and Orchard Oriole.
Conservation Issues Salt cedar has invaded some of the river.
Grazing is allowed along the river with potential for habitat disturbance and cowbird parasitism.
Mineral and gas exploration in area may cause significant disturbance.
