Site Description A small dam approximately 30 feet high blocks a portion of the Pecos River creating a slight impoundment behind. Either side is lined with very dense saltcedar.
Birds A large number of egrets and herons nest here. The area has become more important as other rookeries have become uninhabitable in the area. It hosts very large numbers of cormorants and pelicans during migration. Additional notes:  Snowy Egret (B) - "several"; Double-crested Cormorant - maximum=900
Conservation Issues While saltcedar a serious "threat" here, it also provides the nesting habitat for egrets/herons and cuckoos.
