Site Description Contains several canyons primarily containing piñon/juniper and ponderosa pine with a high preponderance of oak.
Birds According to USGS Breeding Bird Survey this site has a very high density of Virginia's Warbler. Average =1.07/stop as opposed to the best elsewhere in New Mexico (Vallecitos) of 0.4/stop. There are also high numbers of Grace's Warbler and Plumbeous Vireo. There are a number of other Partners in Flight priority species breeding here.
Conservation Issues

Some areas in Tajique Canyon have been excluded from grazing for some period but not permanently. Other areas are grazed but not excessively.

Directions Tajique Canyon runs northeast into the Manzano Mountains from the village of Tijaque on NM-55. A forest road runs up the canyon.
