Mario Garcia and Rachel Bryant

About Us

Audubon New Mexico and the Randall Davey Audubon Center & Sanctuary Welcome new staff!

Three new staff members have joined our team

Rachel Bryant is ANM’s newest GreenStart Intern. While getting her degree in Environmental Studies, Rachel interned on Arkansas's only woman-run organic farm. She also interned with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to create a Species Status Assessment for a local fish species. Following graduation, she worked in Yellowstone National Park for six months before returning to her home state, New Mexico.

Rachel’s favorite part of her internship so far is working with the education department to see firsthand the awesome field trips, in-class programs, and camps Sally and Katie have planned. She’s very excited to be writing curriculum now.  Rachel has also been working with the conservation team. Seeing the work they've been doing has been a great experience so far.

In her off hours, Rachel enjoys hiking, spending time in the bosque, reading  spending time with her cats, and eating copious amounts of pizza (she and her friend have undertaken the massive task of trying every pizza place in Albuquerque!)

Whooo’s her favorite bird?

The Gambel’s Quail. I grew up in Corrales and loved to watch the little baby fluff balls running around

Mario Garcia has filled the newly created position of Center Assistant. Mario grew up in northern New Mexico on a small orchard and family farm, resulting in a passion for agriculture and native plants.  Before coming to work for the Audubon Center, Mario worked for a certified organic farmer and sold produce at the Santa Fe Railyard Farmers Market. He has been volunteering for the Santa Fe Raptor Center since the summer of 2019. Mario holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies form the University of Hawaii.

Mario has thoroughly enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the Randall Davey Center. “It’s such a joy to arrive at the Center greeted by the chorus of songs from so many birds.” He loves any time he can work closely with or within nature, so being part of the Center has been such a great opportunity.

When not at RDAC, Mario enjoys any physical activity preferably outdoors, creating music, and practicing the fascinating art of herbal remedies and fermentation.

Mario’s favorite bird is the well-adapted and mystical Barn Owl.

Judy Calman
Judy Calman

Building on our track record of delivering conservation solutions through on-the-ground delivery, science education, and policy innovation, Audubon has taken a major step forward in our ability to solve our most pressing conservation challenges by hiring Judy Calman as Director of Policy. Before joining Audubon, Judy spent ten years as the Staff Attorney for the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance, working on public land protection in New Mexico. She was based in ABQ, but there are offices all over the state.

Her favorite part of working for Audubon so far is how much deeper she’s getting into state policy and working with state legislators than she was before.

In off-hours, Judy is an avid swimmer, likes going out for good food and good wine with friends and her boyfriend, and loves reading at home snuggled up with her cats.

Her favorite bird? Honestly my favorite bird is probably a Great Horned Owl! I got to work with them a long time ago and they're so beautiful
